You need to know what acne is to choose the right approach to treating it. What causes it to appear? What could cause an Acne? How to prevent it? Which medicine affects acne?
These are questions that we can answer.
What is acne?
Acne is a disease state of the skin and should not be seen simply as an infection. The reason for its occurrence is a complex interaction of changing hormones, increased secretion of sebaceous glands (sebum), overgrowth of harmless bacteria that are on the skin, pores clogging. It occurs in varying degrees of severity. Mild skin problems can lead to a severe form of acne. The most affected are the face, neckline, shoulders and back. The visible symptoms of the disease are comedones (white or black dots), papules, pustules or nodular nodules.
Acne is a disorder of the glands which lie at the base of hair follicles. We all have these glands but some people’s glands release oily substances more than others. For most people, this is a constant battle, while for others thankfully acne disappears when the teens are passed. What is good to know is that there are many things that you can try to keep this under control so that it does not affect your life.
Although it is not contagious or infectious, acne is classed as a disease which affects the skin. The pores of your skin are right next to the oil glands which lie under the skin. It is the job of the glands to produce an oily substance called sebum. The glands are connected to the pores by the canals called follicles. The follicle is the method whereby the oil carries the dead skin cells to the surface of the skin. It is also the place where a single strand of hair grows. When the follicle gets clogged with oil, it does not bring the dead skin cells to the surface, and a pimple forms.
What could cause Acne?
Acne usually affects boys in teenage age, but it is more and more common in older people. No one is insured by the appearance of unwanted pimples.
In adolescent, pregnant, in women during the period or when there are hormone diseases, the main cause of acne is the effect of hormones on sebaceous glands. In juvenile acne during teenage age, the levels of androgens increase – the male sex hormones. They help the skin to stay moist by raising the sebum secretion. The elevated sebum, in turn, occludes the hair follicles. This promotes the appearance of bacteria and inflammation, especially on the face, neck, chest and back. Everyone has had symptoms of problematic skin for at least in one lifetime period, but in severe cases of the disease, familial heredity is often observed. Some people have oily skin that is predisposed to pore obstruction and inflammation. In a more polluted environment, people with such skin are threatened by the appearance of the pimples. The food itself is not the cause of acne, but it has an effect on secretion of sebaceous glands.
Stress has no direct relation to the appearance of acne, but it urges some people to unconsciously rub or squeeze the purulent pimples. This, in turn, leads to inflammation and may further complicate acne stiffness.
